Oyster Festival

Issues to be notified to Marina Staff
With visitors staying on the marina, members should be reminded to tie up their halyards and lazy jacks from banging on the masts in consideration of people sleeping on their boats. The condition of trolleys was also highlighted as was the hosing down of slings when boats are being lifted back into the water.
Darkness into Light
The group were delighted to participate in the Darkness Into Light event now in its 4th year at the club. There was a great turnout and €9,065 was raised for Pieta House.
Cruising consultations
Two consultations have been held in Howth and Dun Laoghaire organised by the ISA to see how to promote Cruising. 3 important areas were highlighted: Pots, Registration and Lack of Facilities.
Gary Davis has been working on the Pot Entanglement problem with over 300/400 boats being caught over the last few years and these were ones that were reported. The advice now is to advise the coastguard where pots you come across are dangerous with either extended floating line, poorly marked pots be it colour, size of pots. These should be photographed giving details of the problem and location.
The registration of boats is another issue. The process is lengthy and costly, similar to the Uk Registration. The Act has been passed in the Dail a few years ago but has yet to be signed. The group are trying to push this forward.
The third topic was the lack of facilities around the country not only for Irish sailors but for visiting boats. There are a lot more pontoons up North than in the South. Any ideas on the project would be greatly appreciated.
