March Round Up & Looking Ahead

The HYC Cruising Group is looking forward to a wonderful summer season of cruising. Admiral Gerry O’Neill will ring in the season at our Annual Cruising Group Breakfast on April 11th. Make sure to secure your spot here before this very popular event sells out! We’re also bringing back our ever-popular Heaving Line Competition this year, so start flexing those muscles.

In the meantime, members have been taking advantage of the many training events curated by our Sailing Development team. Some also participated in the Crew Sparks Diesel Engine Maintenance course which received excellent feedback. More courses from Crew Sparks, including Marine Electronics and Outboarding, are planned for the coming months. Many members are also busy working on their boats to get them shipshape as the days brighten and we head back out on the water.

Admiral Gerry O’Neill is coordinating with neighbouring yacht and sailing clubs around Dublin Bay to prepare a summer season of Armadas, promising plenty of adventures. The National Yacht Club presented us with the 2025 Cruising Annual, now available in the library at the club for anyone who wishes to peruse. In addition, a smaller group of adventurers are planning a Cruise in Company to the Firth of Clyde this summer. Plans are underway, and anyone interested should email [email protected] for more information.

Michael Harpur rejoined us at our March meeting and showcased new features on the eOceanic app which launched since his last visit. eOceanic brings every detail you need to life with vivid, high-context photography, including local pilotage, hazards, contact details, resources, and community insights all securely stored on your device. We can’t wait to see everyone back on the water soon so fair winds and happy sailing!
