The HYC Cruising Group celebrated a fantastic year with our Annual Awards Dinner on December 6th. The clubhouse looked spectacular, thanks to the incredible efforts of Aideen Sargent who curated the room decor. The clubhouse was transformed into a festive wonderland as we welcomed nearly 80 guests for the evening.
Guests enjoyed a delicious meal from a beautifully curated menu prepared by the kitchen team. We were delighted to be joined by our Commodore, Kevin Monks, and Jacinta Monks on the night. Both Commodore Kevin Monks and our Admiral, Gerry O’Neill, delivered their characteristically humorous and polished speeches, entertaining the room throughout the evening.
A special presentation award was made to Cruising Group founder, Gary Maguire, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to cruising over more than four decades since 1984. This award was presented by Cyril Geran to a truly deserving recipient.
Captain Sinéad Ryan also acknowledged the exceptional contribution of Aideen Sargent to the Cruising Group Committee throughout 2025.

We were delighted to welcome John Leahy of the CAI, who joined us in January to speak about his new book and the unique nature of Irish weather in the context of sailing. Despite the time of year and challenging weather, the turnout was exceptional. John remarked on how vibrant, dedicated, and enthusiastic our membership continues to be. Thank you to everyone who came along on the night.
The Cruising Group Committee has already met to begin planning the year ahead. Admiral Gerry O’Neill is hard at work on the Armada Summer Series, and the Cruising Group is also planning cruises to the Greek Islands and to Scotland this summer.
