The 1-Bridge 3 Bridges Rally

Some of the Cruising Group took advantage of the recent lovely weather to join the annual 3 Bridges Rally up the Liffey, organised by the Cruising Association of Ireland (the CAI). Setting off in blazing sunshine from HYC marina, we talked to Dublin Port's VTS (Vessel Traffic Service) as we joined the line of yachts heading up the river towards Poolbeg YC.

At the appointed hour, the East Link bridge was lifted to allow the yachts, flags flying, in past Grand Canal basin towards the Samuel Beckett Bridge. Sadly, one chunk of machinery there was refusing to budge, so we became the One Bridge Rally, tied up on the pontoon near the 3 Arena, and settled down for some serious socialising. Later, there was dinner and music and the lights of Dublin to be admired.

We woke next morning to another glorious day (but sadly, not the promised westerly wind) and, after a leisurely breakfast, made our way back downriver to disperse to our respective harbours. A great weekend!
